Two leading fire brigade officers from the Oberallgäu region have been recognized for their extraordinary dedication and long-standing commitment to public safety. The Government of Swabia awarded the prestigious Steckkreuz, a distinguished fire brigade honor, to these individuals in recognition of their noteworthy service in fire protection and disaster management.

The awards were presented by the regional government, underscoring the significant impact that passionate and responsible leadership can have in emergency and disaster response. The Steckkreuz is reserved for those who have demonstrated exceptional achievements, far surpassing the standard expectations in active fire service roles within the community.

Decades of Service by Konrad Müller

Konrad Müller, originating from Wiggensbach, has dedicated more than three decades to fire brigade service, having joined the local fire department in 1990. His career has seen a steady progression from firefighter to group leader, then deputy commander, and ultimately the commander of the Wiggensbach Fire Brigade. Throughout his tenure, Müller has actively participated in nearly every emergency response within the municipality, demonstrating hands-on leadership and a steadfast commitment to the safety of the local population.

In July 2004, Müller was appointed as the district fire chief for the northern inspection area. In this role, he oversaw several critical operational units, including the Local Operations Support Group and the command leadership service for the district. Over the past two decades, he has played a central role in managing large-scale emergency incidents, flood events, and disaster preparedness drills. His leadership has been instrumental during numerous high-pressure situations, consistently ensuring effective coordination and safety outcomes.

Robert Keppeler's Leadership in Emergency Response

Robert Keppeler, based in Oy-Mittelberg, began his active service with the local fire brigade in 2000. Early in his career, he specialized as a breathing apparatus operator and machinery technician, quickly taking on increasing responsibility in various leadership capacities. Keppeler became the chief coordinator for breathing apparatus training and deployment across the Oy-Mittelberg area, playing a pivotal role in both the education and operational readiness of his colleagues.

Since 2009, Keppeler has held the position of district fire chief for the central region, overseeing modular team training and the operational command service. In 2014, he advanced to the rank of district fire inspector, taking charge of critical emergency scenarios including severe weather events, major agricultural fires, and large-scale industrial incidents. Notably, he has also served as the local operations director during district-wide disaster response efforts, demonstrating expertise in crisis management and resource coordination.
