On Wednesday morning, a road traffic accident occurred on Dyck Street in Nettetal, resulting in injuries to two women, one of whom sustained serious harm. The incident took place at approximately 6:45 a.m., when a 31-year-old driver from Viersen was traveling along Dyck Street, approaching from the direction of the B509 intersection.
According to official information, the Viersen resident brought her vehicle to a stop behind a parked car to allow oncoming traffic to pass safely. During this brief pause, a 54-year-old woman from Nettetal, driving in the same direction, did not detect the stationary vehicle in time. As a result, her car collided with the rear of the 31-year-old's automobile.
The force of the impact caused significant damage to both vehicles and led to immediate response from emergency services. Paramedics arrived swiftly at the scene, providing first aid and medical assessment to those involved. The 31-year-old driver from Viersen suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision and was treated on site. The 54-year-old driver from Nettetal, however, sustained more serious injuries and required urgent medical attention. She was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Local police initiated an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the crash. Early findings suggest that the accident resulted from a delayed recognition of the stationary vehicle by the 54-year-old driver. Authorities have not indicated that alcohol or other substances were contributing factors in this incident.
While the road was partially closed to facilitate rescue operations and accident investigation, traffic disruptions were minimized, and normal traffic flow resumed after the affected vehicles were cleared from the scene. Police have issued a reminder to motorists to remain vigilant, especially during early morning hours and in areas with parked vehicles, to help prevent similar incidents.
The accident underscores the importance of attentive driving and maintaining safe distances, particularly when approaching stationary vehicles or areas with limited visibility. Law enforcement officials continue to monitor and assess traffic safety in the Nettetal region, and further updates may be provided as more details become available regarding the condition of those involved.
Authorities encourage any witnesses or individuals with additional information about the accident to contact local law enforcement to assist in the ongoing investigation.
