Mysterious Burglary Wave Strikes Offenbach: Are Intruders Using Master Keys?

Tue 15th Apr, 2025

Residents of the Hafeninsel area in Offenbach are on edge following a series of unsettling burglaries that have left the community in a state of fear. Over the past week, there have been six reported incidents targeting modern apartment buildings, and notably, the police have indicated that no signs of forced entry were found on the secure front doors.

According to law enforcement officials, those affected returned to their homes to discover that drawers and cabinets had been ransacked. The intruders appeared to be in a hurry, absconding with valuables primarily consisting of jewelry and cash, amounting to an estimated total of EUR20,000.

The string of burglaries has occurred within the "Hafengold" residential complex, which comprises 152 units completed in 2016. As concerns escalate, speculation has arisen among residents regarding the possibility that the burglars may have accessed the buildings using a master key. Additionally, reports have surfaced of a mysterious woman seen ringing doorbells in the vicinity.

In response to the crime wave, worried residents have taken proactive measures by hiring locksmiths to change the locks on their doors. This decision reflects the growing apprehension within the community about the security of their homes.

Thomas Dorant, the managing director of Deutsche Wohnwerte GmbH, the company responsible for the Hafengold development, has dismissed the theory of a master key being involved. He clarified that such residential projects do not utilize a master key system. Standard practice involves using uniform construction cylinders during the building phase, which are replaced once the project is completed.

The Offenbach criminal police are actively seeking witnesses who may have information regarding the burglaries. Residents are encouraged to reach out with any relevant details that could assist in apprehending the culprits.
