The Munich Eye wishes Bavarian athletes and officials all the very best of luck at the London Olympics 2012.
Competitors will take part in 26 sports and 302 events. And of course Munich's elite will also be present. Here's a selection of local athletes, who represent or used to represent clubs in the area and/or have made their home in the 'World city with a heart.'
Felix Brych - Referee - respected Bundesliga official who will be one of the top refs at the Olympic football competition.
Munkhbayar Dorjsuren - Shooting - originally from Mongolia but now lives with her daughter in Munich. Twice Olympic bronze medal winner.
Christian Dünnes - Volleyball - 28-year-old player-of-year at local side Generali Haching and focal point of medal-seeking national team.
Alexandra Engelhardt - Wrestling - Munich born and raised grappler with medal hopes.
Tobias Englmaier - Judo - Landsberg born, grapples for TSV Großhadern in the Bundesliga.
Kamghe Gaba - 4x400 Metre relay - runner who represents local athletics side LG Stadtwerke München.
Ferdinand Gerz - Sailing - at just 23 one of the youngest sailors at the Olympics. Alongside Patrick Vollmann forms a Bavarian elite boat.
Nina Hasselmann - Hockey - defender from Münchner SC, part of a strong women's hockey unit.
Anne Haug - Triathlon - 29-year-old professional triathlete from LG Stadtwerke München.
Claudia Häusler - Cycling - Munich's top lady professional cyclist.
Malte Mohr - Pole vault - soldier who used to represent LG Stadtwerke München.
Marcel Nguyen - Gymnast - 24-year-old member of TSV Unterhaching.
Sonja Pfeilschifter - Shooting - soldier who represents HSG München
Tobias Unger - 100 m / 200m - experienced Munich born sprinter.
Christopher Völk - Judo - first Olympics for the Regensburg man.
Max Weinhold - Hockey - top goalkeeper in the gold medal winning team from Bejing.
Alexandra Wenk - Swimming - 17-year-old butterfly swimmer from Alt-Perlach and LG Stadtwerke München.
Christopher Zeller und Patrick Zeller - Hockey - Munich born brothers will be looking to defend their team title.
