The Papal funeral in Vatican City has become a focal point for global political discussions, with several noteworthy interactions occurring alongside the solemn proceedings.

Millions around the world tuned in to witness the funeral of Pope Francis in Rome. The event was marked not only by the solemn mass and procession but also by significant political dialogues, particularly between two prominent leaders.

Notably, former U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy engaged in a crucial conversation away from the main ceremony. This meeting was particularly significant as it marked their first encounter following a diplomatic fallout in the White House earlier in the year. Trump expressed his intent to seek a resolution to the ongoing conflict caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, proposing that Zelenskyy consider concessions regarding territories, including the Crimea peninsula, which has been under Russian control since 2014. However, Zelenskyy has consistently rejected such compromises.

Additionally, interim Chancellor Olaf Scholz of Germany briefly conversed with Trump at the Vatican, as confirmed by sources within Scholz's team. This interaction took place within the confines of St. Peter's Basilica, marking their first face-to-face meeting since Trump assumed office.

Amidst the gravity of the occasion, a light-hearted moment occurred when Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder shared a smiling selfie with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier prior to the funeral. This act drew mixed reactions on social media, with some critics, including FDP politician Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, suggesting that such behavior at a funeral could be seen as inappropriate.

In attendance was also Prince William, the heir to the British throne, who was seated alongside Chancellor Scholz during the service. Notably absent was Princess Kate, who was not listed among the official attendees. Furthermore, Friedrich Merz, the leader of the German CDU and potential successor to Scholz, was also missing from the proceedings.

The attire of the attendees sparked discussions online, particularly regarding Zelenskyy's choice of clothing. He opted for a black jacket over a black shirt, a departure from his usual military-green attire that he has donned frequently since the onset of the conflict. In contrast, Trump was seen wearing a blue suit and tie.

After the funeral, many attendees had the opportunity to pay their final respects as the Pope's casket was transported through the streets of Rome in a papal vehicle. This procession was met with crowds of mourners and believers who lined the streets, offering a last farewell. The route taken included iconic landmarks such as the Colosseum, leading to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the site of the Pope's burial.
