Actor Max von Thun has expressed a lifelong enthusiasm for history, a subject he cherished during his school years. In a recent interview, he shared insights on how his familial background has influenced this passion, noting that his father, renowned actor Friedrich von Thun, has a deep understanding of their family history, which dates back to the 11th century and intersects with significant historical figures.

Von Thun finds it intriguing to observe the recurring patterns in history, lamenting the tendency of society not to learn from past events. This perspective adds depth to his character portrayals, especially in his latest role in the ZDF series "Vogelfrei. Ein Schwarzwaldkrimi," which airs on Monday. The story revolves around a murder investigation involving the Jenischen community, a group historically known for their nomadic lifestyle.

Before filming, von Thun admitted he had limited knowledge about the Jenischen. However, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to expand his understanding through the preparation for the film. He emphasized that while the Jenischen have evolved over time and are no longer the nomadic community they once were, they still face societal prejudice and misunderstanding.

This engagement with history and cultural narratives not only enriches von Thun's acting but also serves as a reminder of the importance of recognizing and respecting diverse backgrounds in contemporary society.
