Offenbach, Hesse - A significant fire broke out on Thursday afternoon in the Bürgel district, engulfing a greenhouse and storage facility in flames. The incident produced a towering cloud of thick black smoke that was visible as far away as Frankfurt.

The affected structures were situated within a garden area along the banks of the Main River in Offenbach. Inside the facility, various plants, gardening equipment, and several vehicles were stored, all of which were consumed by the fire.

In response to the emergency, approximately 100 firefighters were deployed under challenging conditions, with temperatures soaring to 35 degrees Celsius. They were supported by the emergency medical services, the Technical Relief Organization (THW), and local police, who utilized two water cannons to combat the blaze.

Despite the extensive firefighting efforts, the 30 by 40 meter greenhouse could not be saved and ultimately collapsed. Nearby greenhouses also fell victim to the flames.

Due to the dense smoke, local authorities issued a warning through the community alert app, advising residents to keep windows and doors closed to mitigate strong odors from the fire. Fortunately, the fire department reported that no hazardous substances, apart from typical combustion gases, had been released. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.

The firefighting operation concluded around 5 PM, marking the end of a challenging day for emergency responders in Bürgel.
