Gipsy Kings: "Music Is a Natural Way of Life"

The Oslo District Court has ruled that Marius Borg Høiby, eldest son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, will continue to serve his pre-trial detention under house arrest. The decision prolongs his confinement for an additional four weeks, with the court citing ongoing concerns over the risk of further offenses.
Høiby, 29, is currently restricted to his residence and is required to wear an electronic monitoring device. This extension comes after a previous court ruling in June, where Høiby was sentenced to four years in prison on charges including two counts of sexual assault as defined under Norwegian law, and acts of violence against a former partner. The verdict is not yet legally binding, as legal appeals remain possible.
Authorities have also imposed a restraining order preventing Høiby from contacting the victim, a former girlfriend. Reports indicate that he has previously breached this order on several occasions. Prosecutors argued that there was a significant risk of reoffending, prompting the request for a continued house arrest with electronic surveillance. The court accepted this recommendation, thereby rejecting an alternative proposal from Høiby's legal counsel, who had requested release under the condition that he avoid specific areas.
Høiby's defense attorney has announced plans to appeal the court's decision. Until a higher court reviews the appeal, the current order remains in effect. The house arrest is set to continue until at least September 7, with allowances made for essential activities such as medical appointments or visiting ill family members, provided prior approval is granted by the authorities.
During his confinement, Høiby is also subject to regular drug testing as part of the court's conditions. The legal proceedings are ongoing, and the final outcome will depend on the results of the appeal and any subsequent judicial decisions.
The case has attracted significant public attention in Norway due to Høiby's connection to the royal family. However, the judiciary has emphasized that the legal process is being conducted in accordance with the law and that all individuals are subject to equal treatment, regardless of their social status or background.
This development underscores the court's focus on public safety and the enforcement of legal protections for victims, while also allowing for due process through the appeals system. Further updates are expected as the case progresses through the Norwegian legal system.
