Madrid Restaurant Caught Serving Pigeons as Duck

A recent inspection of a Chinese restaurant in Madrid has revealed a shocking case of food fraud, where unsuspecting customers were served pigeons disguised as Peking duck. The police discovered the appalling situation during an unannounced visit to the establishment known as 'Jin Gu,' located in the city's Usera district, commonly referred to as Madrid's 'Chinatown.'

Upon entering the kitchen, officers found two dead pigeons simmering in a pot, which were intended to be served as a traditional Chinese delicacy. Investigators suspect that restaurant employees had caught these birds on the street, killed them, and prepared them for unsuspecting diners.

The inspection also uncovered a disturbing scene in a hidden back room, where the police found numerous unsanitary conditions. Among the findings were several defective refrigerators filled with unidentified meat, later confirmed to be street pigeons. Additionally, there were strips of meat hanging to dry on a clothes drying rack and multiple rat traps scattered throughout the kitchen area.

The authorities reported that approximately 300 kilograms of spoiled food was seized from the restaurant. One police officer described the smell as overwhelmingly foul, reflecting the unsanitary conditions of the kitchen.

Despite these shocking revelations, 'Jin Gu' had previously received a positive reputation online, boasting an impressive rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars based on over 400 reviews. It was even recommended as one of the best dining options in the area. However, recent customer feedback hinted at troubling experiences, with several patrons reporting food poisoning symptoms following their meals.

The police are currently investigating the owner of the restaurant, who has since placed a sign on the door stating that the establishment is closed for vacation.

This incident raises serious concerns about food safety standards and the integrity of restaurant practices within the city. Authorities urge customers to exercise caution and report any suspicious activities in dining establishments to prevent similar cases of food fraud.
