Renault's CEO Luca De Meo Transitions to the Fashion Industry

Tue 17th Jun, 2025

Renault has announced that its CEO, Luca De Meo, will be stepping down from his position to join the luxury fashion conglomerate Kering, known for high-end brands such as Gucci and Balenciaga. De Meo, who has been at the helm of Renault for five years, is set to take on his new role on September 15, 2025.

During his tenure at Renault, De Meo successfully transformed the company from a struggling brand into a profitable entity. His leadership was marked by a strategic focus on lifestyle-oriented products, particularly through the introduction of retro-style electric vehicles, including the Renault 4 and 5 E-Tech, as well as the Alpine sub-brand.

Prior to leading Renault, De Meo held significant positions in various automotive companies, including Toyota, Fiat, Seat, and Volkswagen. His unexpected resignation from Renault was submitted on June 15, and he will officially depart from the company on July 15.

At Kering, De Meo will be stepping into a leadership role that is currently held by Francois-Henri Pinault, who serves as both the CEO and chairman. This transition marks a significant shift for Kering, which has faced challenges since the COVID-19 pandemic. De Meo's expertise in brand development and marketing is anticipated to help revitalize the company's portfolio, which includes well-known luxury labels.

Renault has stated that De Meo's departure comes as he seeks new challenges outside the automotive sector. The company has yet to announce who will succeed him in the leadership role.
