Longer waiting times at BER again
Passengers at the capital's BER airport will once again have to prepare for longer waiting times at check-in during the vacation season. "For air travel abroad, there may still be pandemic-related country-specific requirements that slow down processes at the airport," the airport company announced on Tuesday. "More time will be needed at some points, such as check-in or security."
In addition, he said, absences due to illness and staff shortages at the respective companies are still to be expected. Passengers should therefore allow sufficient time when arriving.
BER operators expect around one million passengers during the Easter vacations, which last a good two weeks. "The busiest days will be the last school day before the vacations, April 8, 2022, and the Sunday before school starts on April 24, 2022," they said on Tuesday. Around 70,000 passengers are expected on each of these two days, it said.
For the other vacation days, the airport company expects 50,000 to 65,000 travelers a day.
"For everyone at the airport, this development is encouraging, but also challenging," airport CEO Aletta von Massenbach announced. "The airport company, police authorities, airlines, and all service providers at BER will have to work hard to ensure smooth operations. If there are then absences in the already tense personnel situation, there may be delays."
