Wismar, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern - The 'Disney Adventure', measuring an impressive 342 meters in length and 46 meters in width, has officially docked at the equipment quay, where it will undergo final preparations before its launch. Onlookers flocked to the West Harbor to witness the spectacle, eager to catch a glimpse of one of the world's largest cruise ships. The vessel is set to be completed by summer, showcasing its grandeur in the harbor.
This extraordinary cruise ship is part of a billion-dollar project designed to accommodate 6,700 passengers across 2,350 cabins, along with a crew of 2,500 members. Not only is it the largest cruise ship ever constructed in Germany, but it also ranks among the top ten largest cruise ships globally.
The journey to reach this remarkable stage was not without its challenges. The project began five years ago when a Malaysian corporation initiated the construction of the 'Global One' in Wismar. However, the COVID-19 pandemic severely impacted the Asian market, leading to the insolvency of the subsidiary MV Werften on the Baltic Sea. As a result, the ship remained unfinished in its dock, with only 60 percent of the work completed.
In 2022, Disney took over the project with an investment of 40 million euros, enlisting Meyer Werft, now part of Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, to complete the construction. Over the course of two years, the 'Global One' was transformed into the 'Disney Adventure', with 1,400 workers dedicated to its completion.
By autumn, several features will be installed, including smokestacks and a roller coaster, enhancing the ship's offerings. Additionally, a Mickey Mouse figure is planned to adorn the bow. Following its completion, the ship will embark on a journey to its new home port in Singapore, with its maiden voyage scheduled to commence from Marina Bay Cruise Center on December 15.
The cruise experience promises to be unparalleled, featuring seven themed areas, including a large water park, a restaurant themed around Ariel the Little Mermaid, and a theme park boasting the largest roller coaster at sea. The roller coaster will span 250 meters, setting a record for cruise ships.
For those seeking luxury, the ship offers concierge suites with amenities that include 165 square meters of space, king-size beds, 65-inch televisions, and two bathrooms, alongside a balcony view of the ocean. Prices for a four-day stay in such suites can reach around 18,000 euros for two people, excluding travel costs and tips. More budget-friendly options are available, with interior cabins starting at approximately 1,100 euros for a three-night stay.
For those interested in viewing the 'Disney Adventure', the best vantage point is from the Poeler Kogge. Other areas around the harbor are restricted or belong to water sports clubs that do not allow public access. A harbor tour is recommended for a closer look, with tickets available for adults starting at 20 euros.
