LabCampus at airport officially opened
In the presence of numerous guests from politics and business, LabCampus, the new innovation center at Munich Airport, was opened on the 12th July at an official ceremony by State Minister Albert Füracker, Munich Airport CEO Jost Lammers, Munich Airport CFO Nathalie Leroy and Prof. Dr. Thomas F. Hofmann, President of the Technical University of Munich.
LabCampus, a wholly owned subsidiary of Flughafen München GmbH, is a new top innovation location in the heart of Europe, bringing together cross-sector research institutions, high-tech industries, young companies and up-and-coming talent and promoting exchange. The "Future Hub", which is unique in its conception, will connect national and global knowledge carriers and leading companies with its collaborative concept and its international connection.
The first tenants to take advantage of the area's special innovation potential include the training center at Munich Airport, the AirportAcademy, Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS) and amplimind, the joint venture between AUDI and Lufthansa Industry Solutions. The range of tenants will be supplemented in the future by the planned settlement of the Department of Aerospace and Geodesy, the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
Minister of State Albert Füracker, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Flughafen München GmbH: "Unique innovations for aviation-related business models are to be created at the LabCampus. In this way, we are supplementing the central task of the airport of connecting people and markets. The LabCampus gives Bavaria as a business location additional impetus for the future".
Jost Lammers, CEO of Flughafen München GmbH, emphasized in his speech that the development of an in-house innovation hub at Munich Airport plays an important role in the attractiveness of the location and the future competitiveness of the company. "We have won innovative partners with an affinity for aviation for the LabCampus, with whom we can strategically and technologically further develop our premium airport and at the same time broaden our basis for value creation," says Lammers.
"The possibility of networking research and business, the special architectural collaboration and meeting spaces and the perfect national and international connections make LabCampus an ideal innovation location in the heart of Europe," said Nathalie Leroy in her speech.
Dr Marc Wagener, Managing Director of LabCampus GmbH: "With the first two buildings, LAB 48 and LAB 52, we have successfully laid the foundation and proven the attractiveness of the concept. The enormous growth potential here at the airport offers us and companies a unique opportunity for an innovation campus of international standing".
Prof. Dr. Thomas F. Hofmann, President of TUM: "The LabCampus ideally combines talent, educational and innovative strength with the global reach of the airport. That's why we want to bring our competencies in aviation, space travel and geodesy into interaction with knowledge carriers, technology Startups, business partners and international markets."
