Krasniqi climbs to No.1

The World Boxing Organisation (WBO) have released their latest ranking list and sitting proudly in No.1 position at light heavyweight is Munich's very own Robin Krasniqi.

Krasniqi claimed the international version of the belt just over three weeks ago when he knocked out previously unbeaten Serder Sahin in the fourth round in Berlin.

Now he is in the position of mandatory challenger to the world title that is currently held by Britain's Nathan Cleverly.

The WBO's top 2 fighters were due to meet in the ring back in April but Cleverly cancelled due to illness. It was a major disappointment for the Kosovo-born fighter but he didn't dwell on his misfortune.

Since then he has stayed focused on his training and gave an impressive performance in Berlin last month. He is perhaps now in better shape than ever to achieve his dream of becoming world champion.

Welshman Cleverly has recently complained that nobody will fight him. Bernard Hopkins was one high profile name that his promoter Frank Warren tried to line up for him, but that deal fell through after Hopkins originally accepted the fight.

Tavoris Cloud and Beibut Shumenov are world title holders at the IBF and WBA respectively, but neither of those two, according to Cleverly are available. He has therefore been lined up with a fourth defence against Ukranian number two Vyacheslav Uzelkov which is scheduled for the 27th of October in Cardiff.

25-year old Krasniqi has built a solid record of 38 wins from 40 professional bouts, 14 by way of knockout. Both losses were on points and came very early in his career which began in 2005 at Munich's Alabama Club. He has chalked up 35 straight wins and is promoted by SES-Boxing.
