Hollywood actors Jude Law and Andrew Garfield are set to portray the iconic German magician duo Siegfried and Roy in an upcoming series titled Wild Things. This eight-part series, commissioned by Apple TV+, will explore the remarkable and often tragic lives of the famed entertainers who captivated audiences with their stunning performances featuring exotic animals, particularly white tigers, in Las Vegas.
In this new adaptation, Law, known for his roles in Sherlock Holmes, will take on the character of Siegfried Fischbacher, who hailed from Rosenheim in Bavaria. Garfield, recognized for his portrayal of Spider-Man, will embody Roy Horn, who was born in Nordenham, near Bremen. The series is inspired by the Apple podcast Wild Things, which delves into the glamorous yet complex lives of the two illusionists.
The series will be directed by Matt Shakman, renowned for his work on WandaVision. Production is scheduled to commence in the fall of this year.
Both Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn left a lasting legacy in the world of entertainment until their deaths; Fischbacher passed away from cancer in January 2021 at the age of 81, while Horn succumbed to complications from COVID-19 in May 2020 at the age of 75. The duo, who initially performed in smaller venues, achieved international fame in the 1960s in Monaco before making their Las Vegas debut in 1967. Their partnership culminated in a historic deal with the Mirage Hotel in 1988, which was the largest of its kind in Las Vegas history.
Their performances, a blend of magic and the spectacle of wild animals, drew millions of fans over the years. However, their illustrious career was marred by a tragic incident in October 2003 when a tiger attacked Roy Horn during a live performance, resulting in severe injuries that ultimately ended their performing career.
As the anticipation builds for Wild Things, fans and newcomers alike look forward to an intimate portrayal of the lives of Siegfried and Roy, highlighting their contributions to the world of magic and entertainment.
