Investigation Continues into the Death of Newborn in Berlin

Mon 12th May, 2025

Authorities in Berlin are intensifying their investigation into the tragic case of a newborn girl found deceased by an off-duty police officer on Sunday. As efforts to locate the child's mother continue, the police have issued a public appeal for witnesses to come forward with any information that might assist in the inquiry.

Posters have been strategically placed around the Kölner Damm and Lipschitzallee areas in Neukölln, where the infant was discovered. The 4th Homicide Department is seeking to determine how and why the baby was abandoned at this location.

According to the results of the autopsy, the little girl was born alive but met with foul play shortly thereafter. On Monday, investigators deployed tracking dogs in an attempt to uncover any leads related to the individual responsible for leaving the infant there.

Initial searches conducted by the dogs led officers to a residential building on Lipschitzallee. However, further inquiries revealed that the tenant of the identified apartment had no connection to the events surrounding the child's death.

The police have posed several questions to the public: Who observed anything peculiar in the vicinity of the discovery site during the night of May 10 to 11, 2025? and Is there anyone who knows a woman who was recently pregnant but is no longer in possession of a baby?

Authorities are encouraging anyone with information to reach out to the 4th Homicide Department at the State Criminal Police Office located on Keithstraße 30 in Berlin-Tiergarten. Tips can be provided confidentially via telephone at (030) 4664-911444 or through email at LKA114-Hinweis@polizei.berlin.de. Additionally, information can be submitted to any police station or through the online police portal.

The circumstances surrounding this incident have evoked a sense of quiet reflection in the community near the site where the infant was found.
