Investigation Launched into Major Bank Heist in Lübeck

Lübeck, Germany - The criminal group known as the Mantel-Bande remains elusive following a significant heist at the Deutsche Bank in Lübeck, where more than 370 safety deposit boxes were breached, resulting in the theft of jewelry and cash valued at approximately EUR18 million.

In response to this staggering loss, a group of around 30 victims convened at a local community center to seek assistance from a private investigator. The investigator, Josef Resch, 75, has stepped forward to lead the efforts to track down the perpetrators responsible for this audacious crime.

Victims expressed their frustrations and sought guidance on how to recover their losses during the meeting. Resch proposed an innovative approach to aid in the investigation: significantly increasing the reward for information leading to the arrest of the criminals or the recovery of the stolen items. He believes that the current reward of EUR5,000, offered by the public prosecutor's office, is insufficient. Resch anticipates that a reward of EUR250,000 could attract more tips from the public.

As reported by local media, Resch plans to engage in discussions with the Deutsche Bank to explore potential collaboration in raising the reward amount. He noted that many victims are willing to contribute to this fund, highlighting the community's collective resolve to see justice served.

The investigation has seen the number of victims rise to 371, with the total financial impact continuing to escalate. The police are actively pursuing leads and have released images of four masked individuals believed to be involved in the break-in. These individuals, dressed in coats, managed to lock themselves inside the bank after hours, enabling them to carry out the theft undetected.

Resch emphasized the importance of identifying potential informants within the criminal circles, suggesting that financial incentives could encourage cooperation. He stated, "In the world of crime, money often speaks louder than words."

Historically, Resch is known for his involvement in high-stakes cases, reminiscent of his actions during the infamous 1919 jewel heist at the Grünen Gewölbe in Dresden, where he offered a large sum for the return of stolen jewels.

As the investigation progresses, the community remains hopeful that this increased monetary incentive will lead to breakthroughs in the case. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they continue their search for the missing valuables and the individuals responsible.
