Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia - A significant fire broke out on Sunday evening around 7:25 PM in a former amusement park in Solingen, leading to a large-scale emergency response. A warehouse measuring 1,000 square meters was completely engulfed in flames. Firefighters deployed 60 personnel to combat the blaze, while local residents were alerted through a warning app.

The Ittertaler Märchenpark, which has been closed for several years and is partially protected as a historical site, saw a resurgence in activity two months ago with the reopening of its restaurant. At the time of the incident, approximately 50 patrons were inside the restaurant, as confirmed by a spokesperson from the fire department.

The intensity of the fire was so severe that the front ends of cars parked 50 meters away melted due to the extreme heat. All guests were evacuated safely from the restaurant, situated about 200 meters from the flames. Fortunately, the restaurant's operations remain unaffected, and it continues to serve customers.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed a towering column of smoke and flames that had already started to spread to the surrounding vegetation in the amusement park. Difficult access and a shortage of available water sources necessitated the transportation of water from a nearby swimming pool located approximately one kilometer away, as well as from hydrants in the vicinity.

To ensure public safety, thermal imaging cameras and drones were deployed to monitor the situation. Residents were advised via the Nina warning app and radio broadcasts to keep their doors and windows closed.

As dawn broke, the extent of the destruction became apparent, revealing only the skeletal remains of the warehouse. The historic water carousel, an attraction dating back to 1907, was also lost to the flames, along with the structure that had previously served as the 'Bayernhalle' and was being used for storage.

The fire was contained quickly by the 60 firefighters on the scene, preventing injuries and stopping the flames from encroaching further into the nearby forest. However, many roads surrounding the area were closed throughout the night to facilitate firefighting efforts. Local memories of the amusement park are bittersweet, as it featured not only the restaurant but also a pond, a petting zoo, and a fairy tale woodland.
