Through the analysis of these digital models, researchers discovered that the variations in electrocardiogram (ECG) readings between male and female patients are primarily attributed to differences in heart size rather than disparities in the heart's electrical conduction. This discovery could assist healthcare professionals in customizing treatments, such as adjusting cardiac device settings for different genders or identifying new pharmaceutical targets tailored to specific demographic groups.
The digital twins were constructed using actual patient data and ECG readings sourced from the UK Biobank, alongside a cohort of individuals suffering from heart diseases.
