Mon 16th Jun, 2025

The recovery teams in India have successfully located the second flight recorder, a critical device for investigating the recent Air India passenger airplane crash. This second device, known as the cockpit voice recorder, was retrieved from the crash site in Ahmedabad, located in the western state of Gujarat. The government in New Delhi confirmed the recovery, which follows the earlier retrieval of the flight data recorder.

The tragic accident, which occurred during a flight that had taken off from the airport, resulted in a significant loss of life. Early reports indicate that at least 270 individuals perished in the incident, including those on board the aircraft and several victims on the ground. The exact circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear, but investigators are hopeful that analyzing the flight recorders will provide much-needed insights into the events that unfolded.

The Boeing 787-8 aircraft was on its way to London when it crashed shortly after takeoff, descending into a residential area and erupting into flames. Among the deceased, 241 were confirmed to be passengers on the flight, with reports mentioning that one British national survived the catastrophe. Authorities have not yet released the total number of fatalities, as the identification process of the deceased is ongoing.

In response to the incident, the Indian Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has initiated a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Concurrently, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is also involved in the inquiry, given that the aircraft was manufactured in the United States. On Sunday, Pramod Kumar Mishra, the Chief Secretary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, visited Gujarat to ensure that prompt assistance was provided, investigations were conducted thoroughly, and the families of the victims received adequate support.

As this situation develops, the focus remains on uncovering the truth behind this devastating event and providing closure to the affected families.
