Ikea and Sonos End Partnership, Discontinuing Audio Products

Wed 7th May, 2025

Ikea and Sonos have officially concluded their collaboration after eight years. This partnership has resulted in various audio products, including the Symfonisk range, which will no longer be available in Ikea stores. However, existing customers can rest assured that these products will continue to receive software updates.

The Symfonisk line, which integrated Sonos technology into Ikea's product offerings, has included innovative designs such as a standing lamp that doubles as a speaker and a sound frame that combines audio and visual elements. Despite the end of this partnership, Sonos has committed to supporting the Symfonisk products that have already been sold, ensuring that users can enjoy quality sound for years to come.

While the Symfonisk range will be phased out, Ikea continues to explore other audio options. For example, the Vappeby, a Bluetooth speaker priced at EUR50, does not incorporate Sonos technology and is incompatible with the more expensive Symfonisk speakers. This product, therefore, cannot be integrated into the smart home multiroom system that Ikea offers.

The cessation of the partnership marks a significant change for Sonos, which will lose a revenue stream with the discontinuation of Ikea's audio products. Industry analysts are closely monitoring the potential impact on Sonos's upcoming financial results, particularly in light of new tariffs imposed by the current U.S. administration, which could affect pricing strategies. So far, Sonos has maintained its suggested retail prices despite these tariff changes.
