Hong Kong's Oldest Pro-Democracy Party Dissolves Amid Beijing Pressure

The Democratic Party, Hong Kong's longest-standing pro-democracy political organization, has formally decided to cease its operations after more than thirty years of advocacy for democratic reforms in the region. The decision was made during a closed meeting attended by party members, where an overwhelming majority supported the resolution to dissolve.

Established in 1994, the Democratic Party emerged as a coalition of liberal groups during the transition from British to Chinese sovereignty.
