A hiking expedition turned fatal for a 51-year-old woman from Hesse when she fell to her death while traversing a mountain ridge in the Allgäu region. The incident occurred near Oberstdorf, where she was hiking with her husband on a narrow ledge between two peaks of the Schattenberg, approximately 1,800 meters above sea level.

According to local authorities, the woman lost her footing at a precarious section of the trail, sliding across a grassy area before plunging into a rocky gully below. Rescue teams, including members of the mountain rescue service and the Alpine deployment group of the Bavarian police, were dispatched to the scene. Despite their swift response and the involvement of a helicopter, they were only able to recover her body after a thorough search.

The accident, which took place on a Sunday, highlights the dangers that can accompany hiking in mountainous terrain, especially in regions where trails can be steep and challenging. The police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragic fall.

In a related incident, a separate hiking accident occurred in Austria, where an 82-year-old man was severely injured after being attacked by a herd of cows. He later succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.

The Allgäu region, known for its stunning landscapes and popular hiking trails, attracts many outdoor enthusiasts each year. However, local authorities advise hikers to remain cautious and adequately prepared for the potential hazards that come with mountain hiking.
