Hertha BSC Secures Narrow Victory Over Havelse in Preseason Match

Tue 8th Jul, 2025

Hertha BSC achieved a narrow victory in their third preseason match, overcoming third-division newcomers TSV Havelse with a score of 3-2. This match, held at the amateur stadium on the Olympia grounds, was more challenging than anticipated, marking the first time the team conceded goals during their preseason campaign.

The match commenced dramatically, with Havelse taking an early lead in the first minute thanks to a goal from Lorenzo Paldino. However, Hertha responded with a penalty equalizer by Fabian Reese in the 22nd minute. Shortly after, Julius Düker put Havelse back in front in the 32nd minute, but Reese struck again just two minutes later, leveling the score at 2-2 following an assist from Maurice Krattenmacher.

The emerging partnership between Krattenmacher, a recent loan signing from FC Bayern, and Reese has been a bright spot for Hertha, showcasing effective collaboration on the field. Hertha's coach, Stefan Leitl, opted for a complete lineup change at halftime, utilizing a total of 22 players throughout the match.

Neuzugang Sebastian Grönning found the net in the 50th minute, providing Hertha with their decisive goal. Grönning nearly extended the lead further, striking the crossbar in the 68th minute. Previously, Hertha had enjoyed convincing victories in their preseason matches, defeating Ludwigsfelde 3-0 and BFC Dynamo 6-0.

In unfortunate news for the team, defensive player Pascal Klemens underwent surgery on his ankle and will be sidelined for an unspecified duration. The 20-year-old sustained a ligament injury during warm-up exercises prior to the match against BFC Dynamo, and his absence is a significant blow to Hertha's defensive lineup as Klemens was slated to play a key role in the center-back position.

Looking ahead, Hertha BSC is set to travel to Kitzbühel for a week-long training camp, where they will face stronger opponents in upcoming test matches against Bröndby IF, Istanbul Basaksehir FK, and Austria Wien. The availability of veteran defender John Anthony Brooks for the trip remains uncertain following a calf muscle injury sustained in the previous game against BFC Dynamo.
