Three Teenage Girls Remanded After Violent Knife Assault in Heidelberg

Three teenage girls aged 14, 16, and 17 have been placed in pre-trial detention following a violent incident in Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, where two sisters were seriously injured in an attack involving a knife and glass bottles. Authorities report that the assault occurred late in the evening at Bismarckplatz, a central location in the city.

According to investigators, the altercation began as a verbal dispute between the group of teenagers and the two victims, aged 15 and 18. The confrontation escalated rapidly, leading to a physical assault. The three suspects allegedly used both a knife and broken glass bottles during the attack, resulting in severe injuries to the victims.

The older of the two sisters, aged 18, reportedly lost consciousness during the assault and suffered a traumatic brain injury, as well as multiple stab wounds and deep lacerations to her face. She required hospitalization and ongoing treatment for her injuries. Her younger sister, aged 15, sustained facial cuts while attempting to come to her sister's aid.

Law enforcement officials further allege that the attackers mocked the victims after the incident, even as they lay injured on the ground. Police were able to quickly identify the suspects and, following an application from the public prosecutor's office, the local court issued arrest warrants for all three teenagers. The suspects were subsequently taken into custody and transferred to a juvenile detention facility pending further investigation.

The case is being treated as a serious and coordinated act of dangerous bodily harm, with the authorities emphasizing the unusually high level of violence involved given the ages of those accused. Investigations are ongoing, and officials are working to establish the exact circumstances and motive behind the assault.
