The ongoing economic slowdown in Germany has prompted a significant call for accelerated infrastructure development, according to recent survey results. A representative study conducted by YouGov, commissioned by the Deutsche Presse-Agentur, reveals that a substantial portion of the public believes that reducing bureaucratic hurdles is essential for boosting economic growth.
As the government seeks to stimulate the stagnating economy, 37% of survey respondents indicated that the reduction of bureaucracy and reporting obligations for businesses should be a priority. Meanwhile, 25% of participants expressed that increasing the pace of already planned infrastructure programs could be an effective measure to enhance economic activity.
While 12% of those surveyed advocated for a more stringent budgetary approach, only 7% believed that targeted subsidies for specific industries would significantly stimulate growth. A minority, comprising 6%, suggested other strategies, while 4% felt that none of the proposed measures would be effective, and 9% were unsure.
The survey highlights the pressing issue of stagnation and structural weaknesses currently plaguing the German economy. The government, in response, is prioritizing infrastructure investments for the years 2025 and 2026, focusing on areas such as transportation, digitalization, climate neutrality, and support for education and childcare.
The findings underscore a clear public sentiment regarding the need for streamlined processes and faster execution of infrastructure projects as vital steps toward revitalizing the economy.
