German Tourist Drowns in the Baltic Sea Despite Warning Flags

Misdroy, Poland - A tragic incident occurred at the Polish seaside resort of Misdroy, where a 35-year-old German tourist drowned while swimming. Despite being pulled from the water within minutes, rescue efforts were unsuccessful.

According to Piotr Golian from the Polish Water Rescue Service (WOPR), the man entered the water at an unmonitored section of the Baltic Sea. At the time of the incident, swimming was prohibited due to hazardous conditions, and the official beach in Misdroy had been closed. A red flag, signaling a strict no-swimming warning, was prominently displayed.

Witnesses reported that the tourist vanished shortly after entering the water, prompting an immediate response from emergency services, including firefighters, paramedics, police, and a rescue helicopter. A dramatic rescue operation ensued, with rescuers forming a human chain to locate the missing swimmer. Within approximately three minutes, they found him, but despite attempts at resuscitation, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

This incident marks the most severe drowning accident in Misdroy this summer. In light of this tragedy, Polish authorities have reiterated their warnings about swimming safety, especially in areas without lifeguard supervision, where response times may be significantly longer.

The German Lifesaving Society (DLRG) emphasizes that a red flag indicates immediate dangers such as strong currents, high waves, or water contamination, making swimming potentially life-threatening. They caution that even experienced swimmers can be at risk from powerful currents.
