German Politician Critiques Trump's Gaza Proposal as Violating International Law

The proposal regarding Gaza put forth by former US President Donald Trump has been firmly rejected by Michael Roth, the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee in Germany's Social Democratic Party (SPD). Roth characterized Trump's plan as a violation of international law, warning that it could lead to land appropriation, ethnic cleansing, and colonialism.

Roth expressed his concerns in an interview, stating that Trump's approach is not only unacceptable but also detrimental to peace and stability in the region. He emphasized that the forced displacement of two million individuals would exacerbate suffering and contribute to further instability rather than resolving ongoing conflicts.

Moreover, Roth pointed out that no country in the region is willing to accept Palestinian refugees. This reluctance stems from fears of importing terrorism and violence into their own nations. He advocated for a sustainable solution that requires the involvement of moderate Arab states, which should take on more responsibility for ensuring security in the Palestinian territories.

Highlighting Germany's long-term interest in a two-state solution, Roth called for innovative thinking in addressing the situation. He stressed the necessity of preventing Hamas from regaining control over the Gaza Strip. Roth proposed the idea of an international administration led by the United States and moderate Arab nations, which he believes could provide security and stability in the medium term.

This arrangement, according to Roth, could also pave the way for normalization of relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia, contributing to broader regional stability.
