Traditional German Motorhome Company to Cease Operations Amid Camping Season

Tue 22nd Apr, 2025

Loxstedt, Niedersachsen - As the camping season kicks off and the sun begins to shine, a well-established family-run business in the mobile travel sector is facing its closure. Klinke Caravaning, a motorhome provider based in Loxstedt, has announced that it will halt its operations effective July 1, 2025. This decision follows the company's insolvency filing in November of the previous year, with all potential investors subsequently withdrawing their interest.

According to the appointed insolvency administrator, Dr. Hans-Joachim Berner from the law firm WILLMERKÖSTER, there are currently no viable economic prospects for the company's continued operation. All divisions, including the workshop, spare parts, sales, and rentals, will be shuttered.

Just two years ago, Klinke Caravaning offered a diverse selection of approximately 350 models, catering to the needs of camping enthusiasts. However, the company now faces a stark reality. The 48 employees have been informed about the impending closure, and the firm has committed to fulfilling current orders before the shutdown. Additionally, it plans to sell off its inventory of motorhomes and caravans by the end of June 2025.

The financial difficulties plaguing the company stem from a challenging market environment in both the caravan and automotive sectors. There has been a noticeable decline in consumer demand, coupled with an oversupply situation. Rising operational costs further exacerbated the issues, leading to the unfortunate decision to cease operations.

On its official website, Klinke Caravaning expressed gratitude to its customers, friends, and partners for their loyalty and support over the years. The company reflected on its rich history and the difficult decision to part ways with its community.

Founded in 1957, Klinke Caravaning has been a family business for three generations. Initially starting as a petrol station with a free auto repair shop, the company expanded its services in 1992 to include the sale, service, and rental of motorhomes, establishing itself as a significant player in the industry.

This closure highlights the broader struggles facing traditional businesses within the leisure vehicle market, particularly in light of changing consumer preferences and economic pressures.
