At a recent forum held in Pinneberg, the German Federal Minister of Health addressed an audience of approximately 200 individuals, providing insights into several pressing topics within the national healthcare sector. The agenda included developments on the proposed primary care system, advancements regarding the electronic patient record, and forthcoming hospital reforms. One point that drew particular attention was the assurance that dental treatments would continue to be covered by statutory health insurance.
The pharmacy sector was notably represented, with key participation from a board member of the Schleswig-Holstein Chamber of Pharmacists. The representative highlighted the challenging financial landscape currently confronting pharmacies in Germany. According to his assessment, rising operational costs paired with stagnant remuneration have intensified economic pressures. He pointed out that the absence of an increase in the fixed dispensing fee directly contradicts existing coalition agreements. He emphasized that adjusting the fee to 9.50 euros is not merely an enhancement but a critical economic requirement to ensure the ongoing viability of the remaining 553 pharmacies in the state of Schleswig-Holstein.
During the discussion, the Health Minister acknowledged the financial constraints facing statutory health insurance providers, which have delayed immediate action on adjusting the pharmacy remuneration. Nevertheless, the Minister reiterated her adherence to the coalition agreement and assured attendees that the remuneration increase would be implemented.
It was detailed that the Health Finance Commission has been instructed to incorporate the fee adjustment into their calculations, and this process will run concurrent with the legislative procedures for the Pharmacy Supply Advancement Act. The integration of the new fixed fee into the medication pricing regulation is planned as part of this initiative.
The dialogue also included the local Member of Parliament for the Pinneberg district. According to participants, the Health Minister demonstrated a strong understanding of pharmacy sector challenges and was engaged constructively and knowledgeably on the subject matter. These discussions underscored the government's stated commitment to addressing the financial sustainability of pharmacies and maintaining their role as essential components of the healthcare system.
These policy developments are significant for the pharmaceutical sector, which has voiced ongoing concerns about the economic outlook for pharmacies. The confirmation of the planned fee increase is viewed as a step aimed at stabilizing the sector and ensuring continued patient access to pharmacy services across northern Germany.
