Genesis G80 Electrified: Extended Wheelbase and Increased Range

Mon 19th May, 2025

The Genesis G80 Electrified, an electric luxury sedan, has undergone significant enhancements, featuring a 13 cm longer wheelbase and an additional 50 kilometers of driving range.

Set to be delivered starting in June, the updated G80 aims to attract a broader customer base by providing more interior space, especially in the rear seats, along with improved seating comfort. Customers can also opt for motorized doors and sunshades, enhancing convenience and luxury. However, there are hopes for quieter door closing mechanisms compared to competitors like the BMW i7.

Innovative Features

The G80 Electrified introduces the Digital Key 2.0, allowing users to access and start the vehicle using just a fingerprint, eliminating the need for traditional keys. Additionally, Genesis has incorporated an antibacterial sterilization system designed to eliminate 99.9% of bacteria from external devices such as smartphones within ten minutes when placed in a dedicated compartment. The sedan also features a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system with Dolby Atmos for an enhanced audio experience.

Increased Battery Capacity and Range

In January 2025, Genesis announced its commitment to electric powertrains, phasing out internal combustion engines in favor of battery-electric options. The G80 Electrified now comes equipped with a larger battery, increasing from 87.2 kWh to 94.5 kWh. This upgrade extends the vehicle's WLTP range from 520 km to 570 km. Charging the battery from 10% to 80% is estimated to take 25 minutes, which is three minutes longer than the previous model. During optimal conditions, the vehicle charges at an average rate of 159 kW, using an 800-volt architecture common to many of the brand's models.

Pricing and Availability

As of now, Genesis has not released pricing information for the revamped G80. The previous model started at EUR73,580, which included a comprehensive standard package and five years of maintenance, along with the convenience of the vehicle being picked up for service and returned home. Such services are often costly with other manufacturers.

The enhancements to the Genesis G80 Electrified demonstrate the brand's commitment to luxury, innovation, and sustainability, positioning it as a competitive option in the growing electric vehicle market.
