Five Arrested in Prescription Fraud Scheme Across Three Cities

Authorities have made significant progress in a major investigation into prescription fraud that has spanned three cities in Germany, leading to the arrest of five individuals. The operation, which began in mid-July, revealed a sophisticated scheme that involved the fraudulent acquisition of prescription medications.

In Munich, several instances of prescription fraud were reported, prompting the local police to initiate a thorough investigation. The inquiry soon expanded to include other cities, culminating in arrests in both Hannover and Berlin. The total value of the forged prescriptions is estimated to be in the tens of thousands of euros.

On July 19, criminals successfully obtained prescription medications multiple times from pharmacies in Munich. Just two days later, a suspect ordered the same medication over the phone, which triggered an alert at the pharmacy. Law enforcement quickly responded and apprehended two men, aged 24 and 30, in the act of committing the crime.

During the arrest, authorities discovered that the younger suspect was in possession of several forged prescriptions amounting to a significant sum. Additionally, he was found carrying illegal pepper spray. Subsequent searches of their residence revealed further evidence of prescription forgery, leading to both suspects being placed in pre-trial detention.

As the investigation progressed, detectives tracked down the individual responsible for placing the fraudulent orders over the phone. A 31-year-old man was apprehended last Thursday in Hannover, and he is believed to be linked to additional fraudulent activities in Bremen and Hannover. His arrest was facilitated by a package of medications that had been sent from Bremen to Berlin, which directed investigators to two additional suspects.

In Berlin, a man and a woman were taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation. It remains unclear whether they have been formally charged or detained at this time.

The suspects are facing multiple charges, including organized and commercial forgery of documents, fraud, and violations of pharmaceutical law. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities committed to uncovering the full extent of the fraudulent operations.
