Festo Announces Plans to Cut Approximately 1,300 Jobs in Germany Amid Market Pressures

German industrial automation company Festo has revealed plans to reduce its workforce by around 1,300 positions across Germany. This decision comes as the company faces mounting competition from Asian markets and ongoing geopolitical challenges impacting the broader industrial sector.

According to Festo, these market dynamics have necessitated a comprehensive global transformation program aimed at enhancing both growth and operational efficiency. The company emphasized that the restructuring efforts are designed to secure the financial flexibility required for sustainable development, with the workforce reduction affecting a range of departments within its German operations.

Festo indicated that the process is being coordinated with employee representatives to ensure that the staff reductions are managed in a responsible and socially considerate manner. Discussions between the management and works council are ongoing to determine the most effective approach to implement these changes while minimizing negative impacts on employees.

In addition to domestic workforce adjustments, Festo plans to implement cost-saving measures on a global scale, targeting annual savings of approximately 200 million euros. The company stated that while job reductions are expected internationally, all production facilities in Germany will continue to operate, and site closures within the country have been ruled out.

Festo, headquartered in Esslingen, is a prominent manufacturer of automation and control technology, supplying products and solutions to industries such as automotive, food processing, and medical technology. The company's portfolio includes devices powered by compressed air, as well as advanced software and artificial intelligence solutions. The company's latest financial reports highlight a challenging economic environment. Festo's revenue fell by 3.7 percent in the previous year, declining to approximately 3.33 billion euros. This marks the third consecutive year of revenue decline, down from 3.81 billion euros in 2022. As of the end of 2025, Festo employed around 20,600 people worldwide, with roughly 8,200 of those positions based in Germany.

Despite the difficult market conditions, Festo is committed to maintaining its manufacturing presence in Germany. The company expects that the transformation program and associated cost reductions will position it to better navigate ongoing economic uncertainties and competitive pressures in the global industrial landscape.
