FDP Politician Karoline Preisler Attacked Again at Pro-Palestinian Demonstration in Berlin

Sun 24th Aug, 2025

In a troubling incident during a Pro-Palestinian demonstration in Berlin, Karoline Preisler, a member of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) and a prominent pro-Israel activist, was attacked by participants of the protest. The altercation occurred near Checkpoint Charlie and has raised significant concerns regarding safety and tolerance at public demonstrations.

The events unfolded on Saturday evening, with Preisler recounting that she was approached by a woman who initially engaged her in conversation. The woman asked Preisler if she spoke Hebrew, to which Preisler replied negatively but continued the dialogue. Suddenly, the woman attempted to snatch Preisler's Israeli flag, resulting in a painful injury to her finger.

Following this initial confrontation, another woman approached Preisler, attempting to take both her flag and a placard while also smearing the flag with red paint. Police officers present at the scene formed a protective barrier around Preisler to ensure her safety. A spokesperson for the Berlin police corroborated much of Preisler's account but noted that one of the assailants was male, whereas Preisler described both attackers as female. The police subsequently apprehended two individuals, who now face charges of attempted theft and assault.

After the initial incident, Preisler reported that she was followed by several attendees of the protest. In a subsequent encounter in the subway, two women allegedly cornered her. When Preisler attempted to exit the train to escape, the women pursued her. Fortunately, other passengers intervened, offering assistance and contacting security personnel.

Later that evening, Preisler took to social media to announce that she was safe, despite the distressing events she had just experienced. The police spokesperson was not initially aware of this follow-up incident but acknowledged that this did not imply it did not occur.

Aside from the attack on Preisler, the demonstration reportedly proceeded with relative calm, attracting around 250 participants. Police had to intervene in a few instances where demonstrators refused to leave the roadway when instructed.

Karoline Preisler is known for her activism, advocating for the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas and speaking out against antisemitism. She has been a frequent presence at various demonstrations in Berlin, seeking dialogue even during contentious events such as those associated with the anti-lockdown protests during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite facing hostility, including a prior incident where she was attacked with a flagpole in March 2025, Preisler remains committed to her activism, emphasizing the importance of standing up against movements she perceives as a threat to democracy.
