Father Weeps After Lifelong Sentence for His Daughter's Murderer
Chemnitz, Germany - Andrei P. (37) has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his nine-year-old daughter, Valeriia. The verdict was delivered on Friday, prompting an emotional response from Roman H. (32), Valeriia's father, who traveled from Ukraine to confront the man responsible for his daughter's death. Valeriia was tragically killed on June 3 by her mother's ex-boyfriend.
Roman H. reflected on the profound loss of his daughter, stating that her upcoming birthday on January 27, when she would have turned ten, serves as a painful reminder of her absence. He expressed the immense responsibility of raising a child and the heart-wrenching nature of losing that child. He shared the joy of his daughter's laughter, which brightened his life, now overshadowed by grief.
In a heartfelt moment, Roman H. asked for forgiveness from his late daughter, lamenting that he could not protect her. He described Valeriia as a dreamer, with a vibrant spirit that has now been extinguished. The father, who served his country in Ukraine while his family sought refuge in Germany, reiterated the senselessness of the crime against his child, emphasizing that no punishment could ever compensate for the loss of her future.
Andrei P., who had a brief relationship with Valeriia's mother, continues to deny any involvement in the crime, despite overwhelming evidence against him. Surveillance footage captured his vehicle near the scene of the murder, and both his and Valeriia's DNA were found in his car. On the morning of June 3, Andrei P. lured Valeriia to a secluded area before taking her life.
During the trial, he maintained his innocence, even as his defense raised questions about his mental state. The court, however, found him guilty and noted the premeditated nature of his actions. The presiding judge, Janko Ehrlich, stated that Valeriia was likely unaware of the danger she was in, underscoring the gravity of the crime.
The court's ruling also confirmed the severity of the charge, making the possibility of parole after 15 years unlikely. This case has sparked widespread outrage and sadness within the community, highlighting the tragic loss of an innocent life.
