Expensive Retro-Style Mac mini M4 Unveiled

Thu 30th Jan, 2025

Apple's latest compact desktop, the Mac mini M4, has inspired a wave of innovative accessories, leading to the introduction of retro-themed variations. Following the release of numerous cases that mimic the Mac Pro design, accessory maker ColorWare has now launched two retro-styled versions of the Mac mini, reminiscent of the classic Apple aesthetics from the 1990s.

These new offerings come in two distinct color options: a darker hue that evokes the look of traditional PowerBooks and a lighter, beige variant. The Mac mini Retro - Dark features black aluminum casing, complemented by a colorful rainbow Apple logo on top and a decorative ribbed design on the sides, resembling the original Apple II branding. The product also has engraved port descriptions and a 'Retro' inscription, enhancing its nostalgic appeal.

On the other hand, the Mac mini Retro - Light presents a striking beige finish, also adorned with the vivid Apple logo and ribbed side detailing. ColorWare promotes these designs as a modern interpretation of the classic Apple computers, integrating retro color schemes into the sleek, contemporary form of the Mac mini.

As is standard practice for ColorWare, these products are categorized as 'aftermarket customized electronic devices.' This means that the company purchases standard Apple products, customizes their appearance, and resells them. Consequently, buyers should be aware that any issues related to warranty claims could be problematic, as the responsibility for such matters lies with the consumer.

The price point for these customized Mac mini models adds to their exclusivity, with an additional charge of approximately $300 on top of the base model price. Currently, three configurations of the Mac mini M4 are available for purchase: the entry-level model priced at $899, a mid-tier version with 24 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD for $1,299, and a high-end M4 Pro featuring the same RAM and SSD specifications for $1,699. Customers can expect a delivery time of about two weeks, and ColorWare offers international shipping, which includes additional shipping fees along with customs and sales tax obligations.
