W. A. Mozart ''Don Giovanni''
The fascination with the title character from Mozart and da Ponte's 1787 masterpiece ''Don Giovanni'' as a ruthless yet charismatic seducer with an unrestrained desire for freedom has remained unbroken for over 200 years. Director Doris Sophia Heinrichsen explores the consequences of Don Giovanni's actions--such as rape and murder--on the other characters in this year's ''Musiktheater im Reaktor'' production. With over twenty singing students, in collaboration with the university symphony orchestra and conducting students from HMTM, she delves into the dimensions of perpetrator-victim relationships, co-dependencies, and structures of abuse of power in Mozart's late work. The roles will be cast differently on various dates to provide all singing students the opportunity for this important stage practice.
