Vom Inferno zum Friedensymbol. 80 Jahre Hiroshima und Nagasaki
On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Museum Fünf Kontinente, in collaboration with the Japan Center at LMU, presents an exhibition designed in conjunction with the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum. This exhibition aims to commemorate the victims of these catastrophic events and to serve as a poignant reminder against the use of nuclear weapons.
The bombings in August 1945 resulted in the near-total destruction of both Japanese cities, causing immense suffering and loss of life. The aftermath of these events has left deep scars in Japanese society and continues to advocate for peace globally.
The exhibition is also a site of remembrance, where the individual stories of victims are given significant representation. An extensive lecture program will accompany the exhibition in cooperation with the Japan Center at LMU Munich, featuring:

The exhibition runs from 04.07.2025 to 11.01.2026.
