The White Buffalo
Jake Smith, known as The White Buffalo, has established himself over the past 20 years as a respected country folk musician and songwriter. His work features prominent song and soundtrack placements in the realms of television and film, including popular series such as Sons Of Anarchy, This Is Us, Californication, The Punisher, and The Terminal List. He gained recognition particularly for his contributions to the cult TV series Sons of Anarchy, especially the song 'Come Join The Murder', which underscored the series finale and was even nominated for an Emmy.
NPR's All Songs Considered hailed The White Buffalo as an 'amazing storyteller', while Classic Rock referred to him as 'the darkest country/blues export from America'. His studio album Year of the Dark Horse was released in 2022 through Snakefarm, with bassist and keyboardist Christopher Hoffee and drummer Matt Lynott accompanying him in the recording at Neon Cross Studio in East Nashville. They will also be part of the live lineup in 2025.
With eight studio albums, three EPs, and a live album released last October, The White Buffalo's discography is impressive. His live album A Freight Train Through the Night allowed him to reflect on 20 years of musical creation, showcasing fan favorites and deep cuts in a live format. He emphasizes that what they do live is entirely different from studio albums: 'Raw and pure, no backing tracks, no auto-tune, and not perfect; we give our all in our truest form.'
This classic yet fresh approach is sure to captivate fans of artists like Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Johnny Cash, and Tool, as well as rock 'n' roll from the sixties or the dark-noir western sound found in Quentin Tarantino's films.
