Rotundenprojekt Nr. 10: Ngozi-Omeje Ezema »Boundles Vases«
Die Neue Sammlung presents the first installation in Germany by Nigerian ceramicist Ngozi-Omeje Ezema (*1979), who brings this ancient traditional art form into the present. Based on personal experiences, Ezema's work addresses themes such as identity, family, and the female body; she often draws inspiration from forms and materials found in nature as well as other discovered materials. Using transparent nylon strings, hundreds of leaf-like ceramic fragments are arranged at specific heights and positions to simulate vases of various shapes and sizes. For Ngozi-Omeje Ezema, the use of strings represents life in balance, while the fragments symbolize the fragility of this existence.
