Repertório N.2
Davi Pontes and Wallace Ferreira present Repertório N.2 and Repertório N.3. Two young dancers stand completely naked on stage, rhythmically stamping their feet in energetic patterns that continuously evolve. The physical intensity reverberates through the space, with sweat flying and heavy breathing audible. Suddenly, the dancers pose in a calm and provocative manner, inviting the audience to gaze at their naked bodies with a sense of self-determination.
In their Repertório Trilogy, the dynamic Brazilian duo explores dance as a means of resistance against structural and political violence faced by Black and queer individuals in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro. Through three minimalist and critically reflective works, they perceive dance as a practice of self-defense, liberating themselves from societal categorization and stigma. Pontes and Ferreira stamp to survive, to reject the social stigmas imposed on their bodies.
Davi Pontes, born in Rio de Janeiro, operates at the intersection of visual art, choreography, and research, focusing on the analysis and critique of systemic and global structures of violence. Wallace Ferreira, also from Rio de Janeiro, as a visual artist and performer, develops strategies and choreographic actions to free himself from representational structures. In 2021, Pontes and Ferreira co-directed the film Delirar o Racial. Their international breakthrough came with the Repertório Trilogy, with Repertório N.2 winning the Young Choreographers' Award at Impulstanz in Vienna in 2022.
