Isura Madrigal Chor

Alte Floßlände

Join us on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at 20:00 at Alte Floßlände, Wolfratshausen for a captivating performance by the Isura Madrigal Chor. The highlight of the evening will be Carl Orff's iconic work, Carmina Burana, which catapulted him to fame in 1937. This masterpiece beautifully intertwines contemporary harmonies and expressive melodies with elements of medieval music, powerful rhythms, and an artful simplicity.

Orff crafted this composition using Latin and Middle and Old High German songs that were discovered in 1803 at the Benediktbeuren monastery. The Carmina Burana is divided into three parts, narrating tales of love, romance, and mysticism, while primarily exploring the cycle of life. The songs range from a monk lamenting in a tavern to a roasted swan expressing its sorrow, as well as young women eagerly anticipating spring and a beloved compared to legendary heroines Blanziflor and Helena. The performance is framed by the powerful choral piece reflecting on the fickle nature of fate: O Fortuna. To this day, Carmina Burana remains one of the most popular choral works of the 20th century.
