Günther Uecker, Bühnenskulpturen und Figurinen für Lohengrin

Walter Storms Galerie

Günther Uecker (1930-2025) was one of the most active and internationally successful artists in Germany, as well as one of the most beloved personalities in the art world. His name is inseparably linked to the legendary ZERO group, particularly renowned for his nail reliefs, which are highly valued worldwide. Most recently, in January 2025, four ten-meter-high blue stained glass windows titled 'Lichtbogen' by Uecker were inaugurated at the Cathedral of Schwerin in his home region of Mecklenburg.

Uecker's multifaceted body of work also includes set designs and scenic creations for opera and theater. In an extensive exhibition long-planned with Uecker, stage designs and costume figures he created for Richard Wagner's 'Lohengrin' for the Bayreuth Festival in 1979 will be showcased.

Following his unexpected passing on June 10, 2025, the gallery will additionally present selected works in homage to him, highlighting the long-standing and friendly relationship with the artist, which dates back to the gallery's founding in 1977. Over the decades, the Walter Storms Gallery has realized numerous international projects for Uecker and has continuously accompanied his work.
