Farben Japans: Holzschnitte aus der Sammlung der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek
This exhibition showcases the artistic excellence and craftsmanship of Japanese woodblock printing. The collection features approximately 130 works that highlight a diverse range of subjects, including expressive theater scenes, charming beauties, urban landscapes, contemplative nature scenes, as well as intricate depictions of plants and animals. The timeline of the exhibition spans from the mid-18th century to the shin-hanga, or 'New Prints,' of the 20th century. Original pieces are complemented by thematic stations with large-format reproductions that reveal the intricate details of the woodcuts. Additionally, the exhibition touches upon the themes of manga and anime.
