Emma in Love

Metropoltheater

What would you do for a secure job? Every day, we are unsettled by new reports of mass layoffs and company bankruptcies. It is reassuring to know that there are companies that care about the well-being of their employees.

In seemingly harmless small talk, a female manager probes into the emotional state of her valued employee, Emma, who has fallen in love and thus breached the first rule: no romance in the workplace. The nightmare begins...

Concepts like love or affection are subjected to legal regulations and are wielded like weapons. Emma will rebel, threaten, insult the manager, and try to save herself. Just as one anticipates the outcome of the experiment, the escalating plot unfolds with a mix of astonishment and horror.

Featuring Ina Meling and Eli Wasserscheid
Directed by Jochen Schölch

Press Reviews:
"Jochen Schölch places the two women in the midst of the audience on a small rotating platform - a fitting metaphor for their circling brief conversations... A truly strong evening!" (tz)
"The intimacy of the space demands the utmost presence from the young actresses with minimal use of dramatic means, and Ina Meling (Emma) and Elisabeth Wasserscheid (Manager) are breathtaking in their unequal duel on the corporate ladder." (Abendzeitung)
"Jochen Schölch achieves a truly remarkable production. A small, fine chamber play, a grotesque that teaches us the creeps of the brave new working world." (Süddeutsche Zeitung)
