Abschlusskonzert Residenzwoche München 2025: Musenkuss im Garten der Terpsichore
Join us for the grand finale of the Residenzwoche München 2025 with the concert titled 'Musenkuss im Garten der Terpsichore'. This classical music festival celebrates the rich heritage of early music. The program features enchanting dances for the king and songs for the people, showcasing works from 'Terpsichore' by Michael Praetorius (1571/72 - 1621) and 'Musica boscareccia' by Johann Hermann Schein (1586 - 1630).
The concert highlights the rediscovery of the 'Terpsichore' collection, a compilation of courtly dance music from the era of King Henry IV (1553 - 1610), named after the Greek muse of dance. Praetorius arranged these delightful 'hits', primarily French melodies, for instrumental ensembles in four and five parts. Johann Hermann Schein, a contemporary composer and Thomaskantor in Leipzig, contributes to the Renaissance tradition of reviving antiquity with his 'Musica boscareccia', a nature-inspired chamber work featuring intricate vocal parts. His 'Villanellen', akin to Italian basso continuo madrigals, catered to the demand for accessible, folk-inspired vocal works that contributed significantly to their popularity with their playful and sometimes cheeky sensuality.
