Ecovista Introduces New Bus Fleet for Hamburg-Berlin Rail Replacement Service

The operator of the bus replacement service between Hamburg and Berlin, Ecovista, has announced a comprehensive update to its vehicle fleet as part of ongoing efforts to maintain robust transportation options during the major rail line renovation. This move comes seven months after the rail service between the two cities was temporarily halted for extensive infrastructure upgrades, prompting daily reliance on bus alternatives for thousands of passengers.

According to Ecovista, the fleet replacement is driven by changes in vehicle leasing arrangements rather than operational shortcomings or issues with the ongoing track refurbishment. The company, which manages the replacement service with a fleet of approximately 200 buses and employs around 500 drivers, reports that an average of 30,000 commuters use the buses each day along the Hamburg-Berlin corridor.

The delay has been attributed to adverse winter weather, which has hampered construction progress. Details regarding a revised completion date are expected to be released by the rail operator in mid-March.

Despite this setback, Ecovista assures that the bus replacement service will remain in operation for as long as necessary, providing a reliable link between Hamburg and Berlin.
