In light of the recent mandate for the digital submission of biometric passport photos that began in May, E-Passtransfer is launching a secure solution for photography studios. This initiative comes as a response to the growing need for reliable digital services in the field of identification documentation.
With the nationwide rollout of digital transmission for biometric passport images, E-Passtransfer joins established players like Dm and Ringfoto. The company aims to provide a privacy-focused alternative through the use of the Telekom Cloud. Photographers can utilize this service for the creation and transmission of passport images, with each transfer costing EUR0.75.
E-Passtransfer is currently undergoing the certification process according to TR-03170-2 with the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). As of June 2025, there are no officially certified solutions available in the market. A listing with the BSI will be granted upon the successful completion of technical evaluations. Compliance with the technical guidelines and approval at local or state levels are crucial for implementation.
Tevrat Acar, the Managing Director of E-Passtransfer, has highlighted the need for improved digital communication and reduced barriers for smaller photography studios in the passport photo transmission process. He advocates for more neutral information dissemination through artisan chambers, a separation of mandatory services from commercial add-ons, and support for European cloud service providers.
Acar raises concerns about storing biometric passport images on servers operated by U.S. companies. He anticipates a rising demand for independent European infrastructures, especially in light of legislative frameworks such as the GDPR, BSI Act, and the Digital Services Act. He emphasizes that data connected to government identity processes--including passport photos, electronic IDs, and registry data--should reside in secure and controllable systems. E-Passtransfer positions itself as a leader among specialized providers with a strong focus on data security and legal transparency.
