Drunk Man Destroys Car Windshield in Hamm Incident

A troubling incident occurred in Hamm on May 23, 2025, when a 52-year-old man was reported to have vandalized a vehicle on Warendorfer Straße. The incident unfolded around 4:45 PM when a 33-year-old driver was traveling eastbound.

As she drove, the man unexpectedly positioned himself directly in the path of the vehicle. In response to the driver's horn, he violently struck the windshield of her Volkswagen, causing it to shatter. Following the act of vandalism, the suspect fled the scene on foot.

Local police from the Mitte and Bockum-Hövel precincts swiftly responded to the situation and were able to locate the man hiding in nearby bushes. When approached by the officers, he reacted aggressively, attempting to assault them with clenched fists. Officers managed to evade his strikes and subsequently detained him for further investigation.

Upon assessment, it was determined that the individual was heavily intoxicated. After a period of sobriety, he was released, but not before facing charges for property damage and resisting law enforcement officers.
