Altentreptow - A driver under the influence of alcohol was involved in an accident on the A20 and subsequently fled the scene. On June 12, 2025, at approximately 1:15 PM, the police in Altentreptow received reports of a collision occurring in the parking area of Demminer Land. The individual had collided with a parked vehicle and left the site shortly thereafter.

Thanks to the detailed description provided by witnesses regarding the vehicle and the driver, law enforcement was able to intercept the car on the A20. It was halted at the Friedland interchange, where officers conducted a thorough inspection.

The 43-year-old driver, identified as Polish, registered a blood alcohol concentration of 1.57 per mille. A blood sample was subsequently collected at a nearby hospital. The vehicle registration document was found to be merely a copy, prompting a search for the original document.

Investigations revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Schleswig-Holstein the previous night. In response, the public prosecutor's office ordered the temporary detention of the driver. However, by the morning of June 13, 2025, he was released due to a lack of grounds for detention.

Authorities in Schleswig-Holstein were notified about the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the rightful owner was informed accordingly. Multiple criminal charges have been filed against the 43-year-old, including endangerment of public traffic and hit-and-run.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding road safety and the dangers posed by impaired driving. Law enforcement agencies are urging the public to report any such behavior to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
